Special Circumstance Forms 2023-2024

A Special Circumstance Form may be processed for circumstances such as reduction or loss of employment/reduction or loss of untaxed income or benefits, separation or divorce after filing FAFSA, death of parent or spouse after filing FAFSA, elementary or secondary tuition costs, occurrence of one-time income, significant medical expenses paid out of pocket (not reimbursed by insurance),etc. Please submit the special circumstance form as well as the special circumstance verification worksheet.

Dependency Status Appeal 2023-2024

The underlying principle of need analysis for federal financial aid is that parents have an obligation to finance the education of their child(ren) to the extent they are able. The analysis measures ability to pay, not willingness. If there are extenuating circumstances that have caused a break in the normal parent/child relationship, you may appeal to the Office of Financial Aid to have your status changed to independent; thereby, relieving your parent(s) of the responsibility of paying any part of your educational expenses. The unwillingness of your parent(s) to provide parental data on your FAFSA or to financially support your education, or your unwillingness to seek financial assistance from your parent(s) is NOT an acceptable reason to appeal your dependency status. Having sufficient resources to pay your own expenses is also not considered an extenuating circumstance for determining dependency status. Please submit the dependency status appeal form as well as the special circumstance verification worksheet.

2022-2023 Returning Students Comprehensive Costs

Please keep in mind that your small tuition increases are based on a lower initial tuition amount, so your four-year tuition pricing will be less than taking the tuition lock pricing beginning fall 2022.

When viewing "View Financial Aid Document Tracking," you will see a list of specific documents needed to verify your FAFSA.  If you have missing documents and need a copy of any of the documents, you can click on "Forms" on the left side of this page to access and print those documents which are required for your verification.  Note that not all documents are required for every student selected for verification.  Print only those documents listed on your Financial Aid Document Tracking list.   If you need more information or have questions, email the Financial Aid Office at finaid@hanover.edu or call at 812-866-7091.  If there are no documents listed as outstanding yet “Verification Completed” is on the Missing Document list, verification is in process.
